El Mejor Truco
« on: May 19, 2010, 03:02:03 PM »

What is "el mejor truco"? Is there a link to a video that shows it?
Or is it a secret weapon for worlds perhaps? ;)

1st trick here:

I suppose it is not too terribly difficult to figure it out from the video.  Next time I have the overhead camera set up, I'll shoot it just in case.  The very last corner is very hard for me to make, I wouldn't say I've perfected it, I just know how it works.  :D

I cant believe i finally got to see this upclose, thanks Neff for the video, i've been searching for the first trick he does for a long time, i seen him do it once before and he called it "carretera" (interstate) but the camera angle was too far
Now I cant wait to be off from work so I can learn this trick

 =============================

Sorry, he calls it autopista, (still means interstate)
Here is the link,
i apologize, because first of all the video is in spanish, and also because they curse on the video (dont wanna offend anybody), but its another one of Gerardo's amazing routines

[Video no longer available]
=====================================

O and I forgot, where did find this video of Gerardo (neff), i've been doing alot of research on him and i never seen that one, im curious on what other videos you have, specially the close up ones, those videos really help me improve my skills, cause there is really nobody i spin my trompos with, therefore i cant learn anything from anybody other than myself and from videos
Thanks for posting them.............to everybody

Thanks for posting that video, very cool to see Gerardo on a talk? show.  The spanish cursing is lost on me (not a Spanish speaker) so no offense taken, but it looks like he had a good time.  I laughed every time he threw a boomerang and the others all flinched like they were going to be hit!  If only top spinners in the states had half that exposure.

The answer to the first question is downloading. Yes, when a video is good, I download it. There are some programs or tricks of the browsers to do that.

I have the original "El mejor truco" video directly from YouTube. I am doing a "the best trick" tutorial with some views. The kids of my neighbour call that trick as "Circuito Rally McQueen".

The tips of this trick are.

- The top must spin at very high speed.
- It is important to make the string display as soon as posible.
- All the string must be in the same level -horizontal-.
- Don't pull hard the string.

Good luck!

yes, that show is kinda questionable, very unconfortable to watch and listen to...

Here is a video with a similar trick, is this the same trick that Gerardo does?

In my oppinion is the same trick. There are variations about the pass of the string by the right hand fingers, and the number of fingers used.

The more difficult is the correct ending of the trick, the landing onto the left hand. To prevent a final disaster I start the trick with the left hand just over my chest to block the top runaway.

I agree, same trick.  And as Pulp says, the end is the hardest part.

Rafael Espitaleta contacted csam last year and later asked me to get him an official invitation to Worlds. I don't know if the reason he didn't come was because of a visa problem or something else. I mentioned to him that his style reminded me the Mexican style not the traditional Colombian style but he was a little coy about it and just said he knew some Mexican players (this was before seeing players like Jeisson).

Omar soon learned that trick. I just found that this video from Omar (pplgrande) has 1.3 million views:

Hopefully we'll see Omar playing tops again.

For completeness, here it is a more recent recording by Gerardo:

By the way, we used to call it "El Mejor Truco" = The Best Trick, because that's how Gerardo named the first video where he ever showed it. But recently he claimed to me that he had never called the trick like that. Anyway, he now calls it "El Circuito de Gerardo" = The Circuit of Gerardo.
Gus told me once that Gerardo developed the trick while they were demonstrators for the same company (I'm guessing 5 Estrellas).
