back in the game!
« on: August 21, 2020, 09:28:08 AM »

hello folks!

it's been a long time since I was on the boards.
i missed you people so much!

hope everyone is doing well?
Me and my family are doing fine.
a few weeks ago, I lost the motivation to throw. I don't know why..
but the spirit of a spin top player never dies, and after a few weeks, I'm back in the game!

maybe it is coincidence.. a volunteer at the day center where I spent 3 forenoons a week, had a suprise for me.
she send me a email that she found a box with old toys, while cleaning her garage.
inside was also a wooden top! and she wants me to have it  :).
saw the pic , and it's a beauty!

that sparked up my desire to pick up my old wooden tops again.

going back next week. she wants to give it to me personally.
looking forward to receive it!

ps: anyone knows the sewing magazine 'Fibre Mood'?
it's translated in English, German , Dutch, French and Spanish.
at the center where I volunteer , my job is checking the order list and packing the orders.
I love doing that! Fun fact: there are pictures of the people working for Fibre Mood.
even I , my colleague and counselor ("boss") share a pic together!

stay safe , and keep on throwing tops!

many warm greets
Hydrona

Congrats! Those are the tops one loves the most!

I'm looking for players who would like to enter the Sport Ladder. It would be great if Belgium was represented on the World Contest!  ;)

thanks!

I missed you all too!
I'm currently training with the wooden tops. I'm  trying different cords for my tops, to find a good one.
it's good to be back :D

Nothing is quite like the pressure, the fun and sense of accomplishment like competing.  I got to brag that I was ranked ninth in the world for a year (out of 9 players)  Even coming in last is fun.    Don't wait for a perfect time to compete.  Perhaps the perfect time is when you have a top and a string in your hand. :)

Thank you for the motivation Kirk  :)
But really, I only can get target, big scoop, boomerang and of course, spinner right.
I'll practice, and one maybe one day  ;)

If you can do a Boomerang, You should try to do Mach5, Crazy8, Merry-Go-Round and Pole Dancer with just a little practice.
If you throw a Spinner to the ground, You should try to do Sky Rocket. I'm sure there are videos on the forum for these tricks. Might take a little time but you have a good foundation for these tricks

Hello folks,

Just wanted to let you all know that I almost mastered the balancing thing.
I figured it out how to balance a spin top on my hand  :)
with the top I got from Larry  ;D. Maybe it's easier with a bearing top?
After some videos and great tips from all of you, it I did it!
Quess it was still in my head, the trick to do it.
I did by instinct. Suddenly I figured it out!

Next trick: corkscrew  :D

Hello folks,

it was a sunny day yesterday. So it was finally time to practice again!
It was great fun!
I was doing some boomerangs with the Strummol8 I've got from Larry  :).
I don't know how, but I wrapped the string around the tip, and I got myself a gyroscopic flop!
Going to practice on that one, And try to get it back on my hand.
I was so excited! Next time I can hopefully get it on camera.

Have a great day everyone! It's evening here in Belgium.

Gyro flop is one of the best tricks to do with a bearing top. Well worth practicing until you have complete control.
The "blow the top" to make it flip is a great visual effect. With small kids you can convince them that they are flipping the top themselves  ;)
