Spinnobi? This came up on my Facebook feed. Appears this is made by a fidget spinner company ...

Looks kinda fun. I wonder how long a spin lasts.

Wonderful idea! I'm gonna spring for one. ::)

PS: Amazon reviews are mixed WRT performing as advertized. Has anyone here actually played one?

Compared to the regular Fidget Spinner, it's a great improvement in playability. On the trademark application it says first sold in March 2018. The US Patent is # 10,449,418 by Oren Bitton and Reuven Ozer and assigned to Spin Tricks Toys from Linen, New Jersey.

Of course, bouncing tops have a long history.  ;)

Of course, bouncing tops have a long history.  ;)

I see what you mean. Googling for images on '"spinning top" "spring"' returns mostly vintage tops with detaching or built-in spring-powered starters.

Saw one vintage-looking top currently sold new by Garrett Wade with a stout spring for a tip. But the spring looks too stiff to allow much bouncing after release from the detaching starter.

Found no other tops with springs expressly for bouncing. Nor do I recall seeing any in Cyril's collection or on Getty Images.

So bouncing tops would seem to be that rarest of all things in top design -- a largely untapped opportunity.

Jeremy: there was a Gibbs top with a spring  tip for bouncing in one of the cabinets you looked at in my house  :)
Here is an ad from 1927 for a Dixie Dancer but others have a bigger spring.

I also have a modern Buzz Lightyear top with a large plastic spring.

Wish I'd noticed that Gibbs top now, but I was like a kid in candy shop that afteroon.

How much and how long do these tops bounce after release?

I'm in the opposite latitude from my bouncing Gibbs but, from what I recall, if you drop it waist-height it will bounce 6 to 10 inches and then do 2 or 3 more bounces.

Here is a pic from the Flickr spinning top pool:

So I have played a bit with this and it's ok.
It was fun to try a new toy , but it definitely could use work. All it is is a regular old fidget spinner with a plastic spring loaded center. Not much worth the price tag IMHO.
The body is made of a rubber material and it has a single skate board bearing in the center. The center (tips) is made from plastic . Most likely ABS. I have dropped it a few times on the tile and it's still going so it appears durable. Spin time is ok to do a few quick bounces , but it's difficult to correct in the hand. So far I have been doing the following combos. Spin to a  table bounce then palm up bounce to back of hand bounce finished with spinner in hand.
I have done a couple knee bounces as well.
The body is grippy so it shoots out of the hand when it touches anything. This happens a lot.
It is the best use for a fidget toy I have seen so far. It's fun enough, but could be better.
Hope this helps. Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas to you and your family, and thanks for the report! The Amazon reviews kind of averaged out to just OK as well.

I seldom see tops for sale any place so I was pleasantly surprised to see these at a local Discount Drug Mart.  Looks like they have a number of them available…

It seems like that design gets rebranded a lot.  ::)

But it’s very cool to see tops in a store.
