Caught the turning bug again...
« on: October 15, 2019, 06:20:00 PM »

Not sure where this came from but suddenly I find myself making tops again. Working on the SodaTop list, I am now working on orders placed in 2016!  Lol.  Also working on a collaborative 3D printed top with a buddy of mine, hope to do a short run, like 50 or so? More details as they develop.

Hard for me to make time to post here, I will try to do better with it, but you can keep up with me and others on instagram if you are not already. You can find folks like Jack, Gerardo, Taka an many others posting regularly, along with other stuff they are into.
Not trying to take away from home base here, I mean searchable technical discussion is great but sometimes it's fun to share your passion for the world to see. Cake an eat it too?

Wow! That's fantastic!

I see a top with masive balancing holes on one side  ;D
And the big top is truly big, using the short circuit as reference.

The custom ropes, look sweet!

I left my soda top as a present to a player in another country (I believe to Roberto in Colombia, but not 100% positive), so if I'm not already on the list, add me please!  ;)

The lime and black top is a real beauty!

Good to see Mr. Neff making tops again. He has shared so much in the top world.

Big one is a 10" for Daveid, he is trading me for a custom 10" string and superglue top. Many challenges for me in making this 10" top, we shall see how it goes.

The green and black one is an Un-dead Watts, #224. I tried hollowing it out years ago before I knew what I was doing and it has been in a "what the heck do I do with this?" drawer for quite some time with its brain removed. I bought a new scraper that makes it much easier to hollow, so here it is, resurrected! Not sure if I will sell or keep.

The top half of the holey one has been in that same drawer for years. From the top it is Sycamore Burl, Corian, Spalted Maple (from my neighbor's land) and an HDPE tip with steel core. Holes inspired by Jim's friend who made the Corkscrew Trophy - can't remember which friend that is at the moment... help! It does not whistle but in makes a nice ocean-type sound. I am going to sell this one but I have not figured out the best way to do that.

The 5" SodaTop is for MechTop, who's name was put on the list long, long ago. Thank you for your patience! This one required zero balancing putty.

There is a one-piece cherry in that picture that is now finished, extracted from a log given to me by a friend from his dad's farm.

Very exciting turnings.  I remember the one amazing turner named Philippe.  Is that the first name of the person you are looking for?

hello Chris !

"Caught the turning bug again..."
you know it's these machines !!::// the sounds ,  the  dust , the gestures ,the sense of Making something
I've experienced exactly the same kind of "bug" with my sewing machine recently:working madly on an old project of delta kite (12ft wing-span),changing the zip on my leather jacket /// ;D ;D

"objets inanimés ,avez-vous donc une âme ?
qui s'attache à notre âme,
et la force d'aimer"
 Lamartine

approximative translation :

Inanimate objects, do you have a soul ?
Which is attached to our soul
and the strength to love? ...
