Looks like the spin top finals are 5:30-6:00pm Shanghai time on the 11th...and they are 12 hours different from us in Eastern Standard Timing.  So, here in Miamisburg we could watch this live at 5:30am until 6:00am.  Hmmm!!!

Yes, in the Americas you will have to get up early to see it live.

The other two Japanese players arrived. Ju ("Gigo") who I'm guessing is about 18 years old and Kanta who is just 12 and looks even younger. They are very nice guys and both great players. They freestyle with the komas as i had not seen before. Kanta blew my mind several times over. I'm sure he'll be the youngest to ever medal in tops and it's not impossible that he becomes world champ this year!

Kanta is with his dad who can play a little. When I asked him if he had taught his son, he said it was the other way around.

Farid likes to try any top or skill toy and he joined the koma fun.
During the day the practice room was pretty crowded for top playing but Dale, Val and me still managed to throw some tops. At night it emptied so we could all throw tops. Rob and Taka who had earler competed in the over 40, joined the fun. By the way, with Dale we joked that in a couple of years he could enter and ask for double points, as he will be 80!

It's 8AM of Friday here: the big day! For the first time I practiced to my freestyle music.    :-[  Following Taka's example, I rearranged the furniture in my room to be able to do it. I'm hoping that the guest of the floor below left early . . .

One bad news is that Ko decided not to freestyle, so we are down to 6. By the way, Ko is living in Vietnam, teaching Japanese (and last year married a Vietnamese). He brought two traditional Vietnamese tops and taught us how to throw them:

Very interesting how the string is wound around the top. Literally :)

Damn! I was practicing "back stab" (boomerang to a spinner on the back) with an STB2 and no shirt. Until I layed down on the bed I didn't realized I had actually stabbed myself! Now the white bed cover has several blood spots where the base of my neck rested! :o

Yes, dedication.

Well, I am getting sleepy.  I might be up to see everything but I might not be.  But either way, best of luck to everyone.  Hope all the top spinners have good runs and may the best in the whirled win.

Nice work on stage... but, of course, lot of nerves... My private tip: Jun Shimamura, Kanta Tani, Ta0 or Takahiko Hasegawa...

The next world champ will be Japanese, for sure. I don't think in my case was so much about nerves, just my trapeze was off  :-\ A young (very young) champ from Japan could be very good in promoting the sport over there.

Rob knew he was not going to do well, but wantedto do it because he turned 50 and it was in China.
Ju (Gigo) missed the first trick that I saw him nail a ton of times in practice and was the most spectacular.
Farid hadn"t practiced since he arrived to Shanghai, what was an error. They gave him 2A arm socks to cover his tattoes, as they are forbidden by the government.

Although I wish I could had made many more tricks, I entered to make numbers so I"m not as upset as the last tiime I used so many tops.

Woke up and saw some 4A. Closed my eyes for a bit and when I looked again, it was the women's division. Totally missed it.  :-\
Can't wait to see the video.

Took me awhile to find the World Spin Top finals recording.
The Spin Top finals is right after the 4A off string yo-yo semi-finals
at 17:30 on the video...

It's 6AM of Friday, Shanghai time. But I think I still have some jet lag, so my body is not very sure what time of the day it is. In less than an hour I'm heading to the park with Farid and another Colombian guy to meet the kongzhu players (even though we stayed late yesterday night visiting the Bund neighborhood).

It's a pitty we didn't have a player like Daniel to showcase the state of spintop play to the Chinese (or that I was much sharper). But it's been fun. Today we'll try to have some top battles.

I got one of Taka's new P213 koma's. The special event price is 300 RMB or about $42.
