Upgrading YYF Short Circuit
« on: July 22, 2016, 09:35:42 PM »

Has anyone added the metal tip to their short circuit? I did and now it's very unbalanced. When I throw it you can see the wobble in the air and it vibrates heavily on the string. It seemed like a straight forward job since there is only a washer, screw and tip. What is the secret?

This is a known problem with the Short Circuit (see my initial review of the Energia version) and we believe it has to do with the ratio of moments of inertia (axial and transverse) getting too similar. Putting some extra weight at the tip should fix it. I believe Jack posted a solution that worked well for him.

EDIT: Read this: dont put a bearing in it!!!!!!!!

I noticed on the Yo-yo Factory website it says: (Metal tips not compatible with Short Circuit spin top).
They have some new colors available in their tops I see. I might have to get another!

I will definitely pick up a couple of those. They are fun and bounce well on hard surfaces. Here is a short video of me and my son playing top.

Very nice video.
It’s terrific to see you passing the knowledge on to your son.
Well done! - High-five to you both!  :)

Fantastic and so much fun. And I'm leaving all my tops to my Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. My kids don't want any thing to do with tops. I went to San Francisco two weeks ago and met up with my Grandaughter and Great Grandaughter - it was kites - trick kites - Big Trompo, what a GREAT DAY. Nothing better in life than to be a dad. But it does get better. Grandpa and GREAT GRANDPA.  I love it. EJOY THE RIDE.
