I find their skill especially appealing because they are still basically throwing a top in the traditional way.  It's just that they do it so amazingly accurate.

String tricks are a major departure from traditional top throwing.  People invented a totally different thing to do with tops.

It's somewhat analogous to "Freestyle Frisbee".  The Frisbee is a flying disc, meant be thrown, but freestylers invented something totally different to do with flying discs.

Nice collection, Alan. Welcome aboard.

I've seen some of these videos before, but the displays of skill and accuracy still blow me away every time. As an added bonus, the female commentator in the video posted by johnm is absolutely delightful.

She is hilarious.  I know nothing about what she is saying but I enjoy listening to her.  Her enthusiasm would add to any of our top competitions.  We need her as a commentator!!!

Welcome. Thanks for sharing. I love the style of this top. Once I've modified it - I'm ready to fight and trick with this nice heavy top.

Hello Guys,

Thank you all for the videos! I am dumbfounded by the skill of these throwers, and am considering getting into "target" throwing. Can I just use any old top for this, or are there specific tops I should use, such as the traditional tops?

Thank you!

Nice to see that Kostas Mougolias has his tops on the Toupie Shop. It's a pity that the shop doesn't list his name, but they are easy to recognize from the paint job. I have one of those Taiwanese tuolos by him and it works great. I also have his whistling top that is also on the site. Just yesterday I spun it for a nephew and niece who got together with Pablo for Father's Day.

Merci pour l'information, une question : sur le forum on trouve TUOLO et TUOLUO, quel est le nom officiel, à moins que les deux noms soit reconnus.

In Chinese it's written:

陀螺

You can hear different pronunciations here: https://forvo.com/word/陀螺/
In Mandarin it sounds to me like: tuoluo. But in Wu I hear tuolo. In Cantonese I hear something closer to tuolo, perhaps with a very soft u.
In both Mandarin and Cantonese I hear a long o at the end.
In the Wiktionary page (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/陀螺) they have it written in romanized Mandarin (pinyin) as tuóluó. And for romanized Cantonese as to2lo4 or to4lo4, where the 2 means that the tone is mid rising and 4 is low falling.
In Taiwan I would expect Mandarin but on a couple of videos I checked I didn't hear the last u.
