This one looks like the tops from Turkey that LarryD got for the Miamisburg festival (last year I think)  It is not a self winding top.  The string is attached to the hole in the metal dish.  Wind from the tip up like you would expect.  Little kids love these as the can do a trapeze first try.  You can spin then on the point or on the crown nail.  There are videos posted on the forum of Turkish street vendors doing boomerang like tricks.  Perhaps some member can find the link to the thread.

The others I know nothing about.

A note about a thumb tack as a point.  At first it seems like a bad idea, until you get one on the tile floor.  They correct themselves very quickly and sleep pretty well.

An Olive wood Top sounds like a fun thing to have. We have some Olive wood Christmas ornaments and they feel so very good  in the hand.
