festival des jeux
« on: December 01, 2014, 12:39:44 PM »

hi all

this week end Ludo and I were booked for a "festival de jeux" near Paris

we had the toupies-du-monde in display cases plus Ludo's board games
and did several demos with a captive audience, but no formal stage act with music
good response as usual : individuals from China ,Portugal,Algeria, and the Commores went to talk to us about the spintops in their childhood

we discovered incredible skittles games on display , mostly from the north of france and from england, with HUGE skittles and a series of real heavy duty bowling bowls  made of wood

a short sequence with magnetic tip

 photos to come

That is a great collection of spinning top board games that Ludo has!

About the giant pins games: to be skittles they should use a top instead of a ball for knocking them: Figaro perhaps?

(PS: I cannot see the first video as it is set as "Private").

Hey! That was a magic trick!  :D

I never tried hanging a magnetic top from another spinning top. But the magnetic top does not appear to be spinning, what would make it more interesting: if they are spinning in the same direction they will be precessing in opposite directions. That would probably be difficult to control, but now I want to try it.

Who organized this toy festival?

3 more pics

group shot
skittles
tops display

it's been a fun week end organised by a city near Paris  : Soisy sur Seine
it was the 4 or 5th festival des jeux , it's growing...
i met the person in charge with cultural affairs: they were stunned !
most of the ancient toys belong to an association in Lille where they tend a small museum of ancient toys
we're booked for next year and for 2 more dates this spring
