Name my new take-apart big top!
« on: January 23, 2013, 12:00:46 PM »

Hey all,
I've been talking about this for years, and now it's finally happening. I have had an idea for quite a while to make a large (7 inch diameter or so) top that could be taken apart into two pieces so that it could fit in a small prop case. The plan is for this top to be part of the new finale for my new Briefcase Show (an entire show that fits into a briefcase). Last night Chris Mulhall came over and we worked on the top. He is a mechanical engineer, so he has bad-ass Computer Aided Design skills, PLUS he's a top-spinner, juggler, and yo-yo player. We're not quite to the point where I can show you the design yet, but I'm really excited about it, and I wanted to see if anyone had any good ideas for a name. If we can come up with a good enough name fast enough I might be able to have the name inscribed into the plastic.

The basic details:
Breaks down into 2 pieces (my idea)
Has a wavy line around it that is the separation point for the two halves (Alan's idea)
Can be ball-bearing or fixed tip (thanks to Alan's clever reversible nut)
Will be made of plastic (my idea)
Will be as close as I can get to Alan's Golden Shape (Alan's idea)

Who's got a good name? So far all I've got is the code name that I made up right now: Ham Sandwich

What color can you make it? Can the top piece be a different color?

The two pieces can be different colors.

Humpty is funny! Could be Humpty Hump to give it a little pop culture flair.

Mulhall suggested:
"Stash-n-Spin works as a name, but it's purely functional and not fun like Chubby. SuperStasher, The Big Breakdown, SuperDoody, Par-T-Pak, Pak-n-Play D-Lux"

By cracky, I'm falling in love with Cracky.  In fact, I think I will start using the word "cracky" in my every day lingo.  Of course it will have to be said with a higher nasally voice like an old prospector!

And of course, I will have to stop using it when someone sees it as a drug reference.

The two pieces can be different colors.

Make two--black/white and white/black-- call them Lokai and Bele and throw battle spinners to provide a conclusion to the Star Trek episode "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield" to declare a 'winner'?!.
