I told my wife that is the kind of sculpture I want in my front yard.  She said "when you have your own front yard you can have that sculpture in it.".  That sounds like a yes for me having this on my grave!

:o :o :o The 24 kongzhu thing is out of this world, simply incredible! I guess they are keeping some kind a record on the number of kongzhus played by one person.  By the way, I don't really understand the set up, I need to think about it one day.

I love giant spintop sculptures and this qualifies.  One more addition to the list of places I would like to visit one day and get a picture while spinning a top.

I can see why Dawn would not like it on her front yard.  The sculpture is kind of  . . . "masculine"  :P

Super great finds, John.  Thanks for posting them!

I always wondered how the original bamboo kongzhu was made by hand.  The first part of this video shows the technique used for a diabolo and a monobolo.  The rest of the video is off topic but kinda funny.  Anyway, I hope some of the woodworkers on the board will get some ideas from this.

Fascinating.  I, too, always wondered about how those bamboo ones were made.  That's great info.  Wonder if anyone will take off on any of this?

Thanks for the video!

Nice to see the process, but their walkthrough was pretty superficial.  It would be hard to get all the necessary steps from that short piece.  I did enjoy watching the two hosts, they seemed to have a great time and the guy was pretty funny.

Here is an interesting variation I don't think has been posted yet.
It reminded me of Mark Hayward's top on the hat trick.

Here's Jim Neff (no relation (I don't think)) at Rochester MN IJA fest doing the same thing:

Jim's not on this forum, I wish he would join.

Ha, the part when he is sitting on the rotating board is funny: a human top  ;D When my sons were little we used to have something like that but I never combined it with tops and unfortunately we do not have it anymore.
