Looks like a micro whip top to me. Now you need to make micro whip for it  ;)

Death by whip! You killed the spin! The whip should be much suppler. I suggest you get a piece of yo-yo string, untwist and spread out the threads at the end. We want to see a video where you regenerate the spin with the whipping action  >:D

ta0,

Thanks for your suggestion of using a suppler material like yo-yo string.
Here is my attempt using it. (This is the last video guys, I promise)

Now, when your top arrives ta0 I do expect to see you doing a boomerang, corkscrew, rollercoaster, stairway to heaven, etc. with your finger spinner.
Bring on those videos!

Cheers!  >:D >:D

(Glad I brought a laugh to you Earl  :))

That's what I wanted to see! The top clearly revs up when you whip it. Good job!

I'll try the boomerang, no problema. The other tricks you mention won't happen. But I am glad you did not ask for a boomerang of the 11.5 lb whip top!  :o

Great videos!!  Laughed out loud to see you whipping that little guy in the first video, then succeeding in the second.  (Hmmmm... Larry seems pretty good with a whip for a 'first timer', no?!)

Whip top arrived here!!!!

Wow! That whip top is serious business!  Great quality! It has a 2mm stainless steel jacket over 1/2" wood walls. It is not as heavy as Larry thought: 2.4 kg (5.3 lb), or just under Figaro's weight, but still a pretty scary thing.  The whipping rubber bands look somewhat puny in comparison and I may try something heavier to make whips.

I played with it for an hour and finally figured out how to start it. I used plywood as a target inside the empty garage, as the floor is smoother and more forgiving than the driveway. My whipping action was not consistent and was a matter of hit or miss: sometimes it gave it more spin, sometimes it took it out. The "whistling" hole is asymmetric and for a while I was concerned that it was for left handed players: it made no noise. I could finally get it to spin fast enough to make some noise but still far from loud (well, the whip WAS loud), so I need to practice my technique. And it is a good workout: I was sweating.

The top is well worth the money they charge for it  8) But it was probably a mistake to buy the whip stick: with the extra shipping cost this tree branch cost me quite a bit.

Larry: boomerang of the tiny extra whip, done. The big one . . . I have to think about it  ::)  Thanks for making this possible.

Fantastic!  I'm so happy it arrived!  ;D

As far as the weight goes, I did have my doubts - When I dropped your top off for shipping I noticed the scale was showing about 5.4 lbs.
I used the published weight on the Merchant's Web Site.  Obviously the weights are incorrect.  >:(

I had the same thought on the whip and the same difficulty.  Actually the whip for mine is about 1/16 narrower than yours.
I ordered a few leather strips from Zack White Leather Company http://zackwhite.com/xcart/ hopefully these will work better for me.
I ordered them a bit wider than what was supplied.

By the way, the top can be spun (started) with cotton clothes line type rope in sort of the conventional way.
You can whip it from there.

The sticks, well, they are not an option, they are included with the purchase of the top, I guess a buyer would have to tell them to keep the sticks.

I can't wait to see a video of you boomeranging that tiny top. :)

Enjoy!

I can attest to the exercise one gets from whip tops.  We have whipped our share around these parts and I have developed some good sweat action from the activity.  Of course, that was all on much smaller and lighter whip tops.  I expect Mr. Ta0 had an extreme workout with his one hour encounter with that whipped wonder!
