Dr. Tada is quite impressive. I imagine he was quite fun to be around. A few things I noticed, one that he looks up before he throws. Always a good way to get the audience curious. Also he threw his hands up after successfully completing tricks, especially at the beginning of the video. Is it possible that Mark Hayward has stolen this move from Dr. Tada...  :o   

Neff any chance we can see a video of your time on stage. Never mind I just finished watching the video  :-X

It looks like Dr. Tada does a couple Reversibles at about 4:20-4:22.  Sweet.

Very nice! I love how smooth his koma playing is. It is not easy to always keep the tip slanted correctly: our tops are much more forgiving.
Did he tell you how he started throwing?
I am sure that as professor of mechanical engineering he could truly appreciate the mechanical marvel of a fully equipped Sofia.

I like Dr. Tada's koma made from a whole baseball.  It is a great example for our earlier thread discussing mass distribution, balance, and wobble.

That unwrapped wire walker is so cool, and he makes it look like the diabolo or arrow like tip that we use is not needed at all.

Thank you for the email.  It was good to see you after so many years.  It was on August 26, 2000 when we performed together at the MO History Museum.  I had a lot of fun on Saturday.  I enjoyed many amazing acts by you and others.
 
Thank you for posting the nice video so quickly.  It is great.  Many videos of my top spinning have been on the youtube, but, since they were taken by either spectators or reporters, few are as closely and well focused on the top and rope as yours.
 
As for the Strummol8, please wait and see if this primitive guy can handle such a modern, high-tech tool.
 
I look forward to seeing you again.

I ran into Dr. Tada outside of the art museum in St. Louis once...he was great fun.

I'm always jealous of those who get to spend time at the City Museum.  I go at least once a year, and I don't think it's often enough!

Oh, wow I thought the unwrapped wire walkers were just slides like a cable car.  No! It goes up hill. The "wrong" way since the Koma is thrown backhand.

BTW, am I the only one that thought the video production was lame?  I was getting seasick from camera shake.

I think at least in one direction the top going up must be an illusion.  In the other direction it could be grinding up somewhat, but my guess is that is the same illusion.
From the precession of the top he spins it counter-clockwise like most right-handed players.

The first time I watched the video I liked it. I guess the camera shake made it more dynamic.  When I watched it again to look at the tricks carefully, it was became annoying.

Dr. Tada is very very interesting.  He and I both did our top presentations at the St. Louis Art Museum years ago during an Eames exhibit.  Nice to see he is still spinning along!
