can you tell me about the shaving between photo 7 and 8 : i mean after the drilling , do you have to work inside ?
For the final hollowing of the Padauk top in the slideshow I used only a Forstner drill bit (3/4" I believe). Padauk is so light that I didn't want to get inside and hollow it any further; as it is the top is 74.5 grams (almost 8 grams lighter than the stock Guilia).  If I had truly hollowed it, I would have ended up with it being under 70 gm.  In contrast, #5 (the Black & White Ebony top) is fully hollowed using a 1/4" round-nose scraper and this tool:http://www.woodcraft.com/Catalog/ProductPage.aspx?prodid=30198&ss=a327895d-f8bd-4648-b8a3-5356fafa34ac  At several places Number 5 has a wall thickness of only 3/16".

Maurizio......don't worry, a package will be heading to Italy in a few days... ;D ;D ;D

Well, the reason they don't need sharpening is that the cutters "are replaceable once dulled". And I have the feeling that the handle is not the most expensive part . . .  ???

Thanks so much Eric! Today in the mail I got the Padauk (Guilia di Legno #3) from the slide show. Gorgeous!
I have only thrown it exactly one time so far but on that throw I did a reversible corkscrew plus several gyroscopic flops and then wizard gyro, finishing with finger exchanges and the statue of liberty pose. It plays as good as it looks! :o

Eric express-mailed it to me so I could bring it to Nats so y'all can check it out!  ;D

Wow! Is that dyed around the date to match the natural vein or is it all natural? That's craftsmanship!

Yep, that light spot where I put the "2010" is part of the grain.

Because these all look so great, you could have told us you 'unveiled' the 2010 as a natural feature of the wood and we may have believed you. ;D :o
