wow, thanks for all the tips and stuff. quick question, I've never had to use sandpaper on something delicate, am i supposed to use water with it?

No need for centering?

If you have access to a lathe, removing scratches from a Delrin top like the Guilia is quite easy.  Here's what you do:
Mount the top on the headstock.  The best way to do that for this purpose is to use a 4 jaw chuck with pin jaws and hold the top by expanding into the crown; not too much pressure, just enough to hold it.  Then buff with steel wool (0 or 00 to start, and finish with 000 or 0000).  If there are serious scratches or dings, start with 400 grit sandpaper and then finish with the steel wool.

No water necessary.

No need for centering?
You should only need to use the tool rest as a guide and tap it around a little at the tip end to make sure it spins true before you sand.
