travels to Orlando and the world championships of top spinning

I'm interested in hearing any other stories from people and their travels to Orlando.  Here are some of mine.

For me, the trip to Rosen Hotel started last Tuesday when I went to the University of Cincinnati to get their special addition to the festivities.  I keep hinting about it but so far no one is talking about it.  I can say that my son Joe had a good go with everything and got to sign his name in North Carolina.  johnm will be happy to hear this.

I am currently just south of Greensboro, NC in Pinehurst.  My wife's work has access to a place down here and we are all enjoying the luxury we normally do not have.  I am in a great place by a golf course with a pool table and nice air conditioning.  My wife, step-daughter and her friend are all here with me and we are having a blast.  I also have access to a computer which is why I am able to send this report. 

Some interesting places I have passed along the road include..........Flat Top, West Virginia.  It is a ski resort area but they didn't have any shirts that said Flat Top on them.  In Greensboro, the local High School is Grimsley.  I about fell over when I saw their mascot.  It is a tornado and they are called the Whirlies!!!  Today we were driving around looking at some colleges for my step-daughter and went through an interesting place called Apex.  I thought Alex/Apex would enjoy this connection.  Again, I tried to get something with the name on it but failed.  Sorry Alex/Apex.

We have one more college to visit tomorrow (Tuesday the 10th) and then I will be completing my drive down to Orlando.  I plan to arrive there in the late afternoon or early evening of the 11th.  Hope everyone else's travels go well!

I'll have a relatively short non-stop flight arriving 10:50 AM, Wednesday. But if I decide to take Lynx bus (cheap me!) I may not arrive to the Rosen Plaza until after noon . . .  The room is under Dick Stohr's name.

I am guessing the mystery thing is some kind of world globe top? Whatever it is, it will be awesome.

Noon? thats wishfull thinking, the bus take about three times it would take on a car, Im going to say if you get here at 10:50am, you'll probably be at the Rosen Plaza around 1ish maybe 2pm

I won't get in until thursday evening, flight arriving @ 6:30.  Not sure how we will get to the hotel.  I think that I will be willing to spring for a quicker route than the bus, anybody have suggestions on that?

The Lynx bus is brutal

  Last year I took Lynx with Jim Johnson (yes, JimE). It took like 1:15 plus the wait, for like $2, but as we got in when it was empty we could get good seats for us and place for the luggage. It wasn't a bad experience but I was thinking in going back to the shuttle . . .

The Mears shuttle (www.mearstransportation.com) costs about $22 one-way if you buy it over there. But if you get it online it is only $18 one-way or $29 two-way (non refundable). Of course, if you get there in peak worlds arrival time and you know enough people you are likely to be able to share a taxi.

So far, everything is going perfectly normal.  Got a stomach flu yesterday, had no enegy to pack.  Then the AC went out at the house.  Hot and pukey is not the way I like to prepare for travel.   I'm at the airport after making a few friends on the highway.  Flight is delayed.  Ready for some awesome!

about the last couple weeks.

I just pulled into Orlando and am resting for a few minutes before I pick up John Buechele from the airport.  johnm will enjoy a sign I saw on the road.......black ankle rd.  He will be happy to know my ankles are fine from recent top encounters at UC.  I have seen two dead armadillos on the side of the road and went over the great pee dee river, whatever that means.  I did see spin city laundry in south carolina with a tornado logo.  That and hearing a song by the four tops are my only top related encounters.  I did get a wonderful reception at wonder works toy store in charleston, sc.  They took a video of me doing some top spinning and gave me a free rubber band shooter to use on my opponents!
