Corkscrew (world record) challenge at worlds
« on: August 09, 2010, 12:37:06 PM »

We will have for the third year in a row the Corkscrew Challenge at worlds. Who can do the corkscrew with the most wraps?

Any new record will be the official World record (currently at 11 wraps). The winner (even if he doesn't break the record) will take home for one year the unique Jim Boehm trophy. In addition, there is the rumor (not confirmed) that there may be two other prizes coming from old Europe, including a VERY desirable top to keep!!!!!  :o  8)

The rules remain those of last year: Topic 84

For the results and the video from w09 see: Topic 378

Corkscrew King anybody? (not sure if that sounds good  :P )

I nominate yocephus to bring the refreshments.

When are we going to do this?

It will probably be in the program to be printed at a Kinko's in Orlando after registration opens . . .  ::) I miss the days when the detailed program came out months in advance. I don't think we will know until we are there. But we asked for a room for a corkscrew workshop followed by the challenge.  I asked for at least 1 1/2 hours for the two things together. We will see what we get.

The wine needs to have a true cork so we can open it with the trophy. Tom brought the wine last year so we need a new volunteer.

By the way, I imagine the top battle will probably be late Friday (before the wheel of penalty?) to give people the chance to get a mask.

Wheel of penalty is Thursday, according to the Worlds e-mail

P.S.  I am the juice head.  I hope the corkscrew challenge is not before freestyles...

my friend works for a hardware store and brought me a spoul of string. today i cut a very long piece and tried to do as many reps of the corkscrew as possible. believe it or not i succeded in doing 15 wraps using an acrobat. after making the video i found out with the corkscrew challenge rules i was supposed to use the same string, oh well. i think i can beat 15. i will post a video when i do.

That was excellent! Very clean and the top still seemed to have something left.
You have become really good in a short time with bearing tops.

Now the bad news: it is only a world record if you do it on the contest  :(  I hope you can come to Worlds. I plan to take the trophy from Neff, but you would be serious competition  ;)

I think the competition should be split between fixed tip and bearing, the fixed tip offers a bigger challenge and is opaqued by the amount of wraps that can be done with the bearing top.

Way to go Topper777 keep those amazing tricks coming!!!

Go topper777!  Is that your next goal.....777 wraps?  Just kidding, of course.  15 wraps is pretty amazing in anyone's book.
