Crazy 8s help
« on: August 06, 2010, 09:58:52 PM »

I noticed that Crazy 8's are a lot easier with bearing tips, but i've seen people perform them with fixed tips. Everytime the top comes over my hand it tends to slip off the string when using a fixed tip top. Any suggestions on the motion of the trick, or string tension on the top that will help with this problem?

The easy way is raising the forearm almost vertically and not swinging the top much, so even when the string goes over the hand, the top is circling below it.  With a standard fixed tip top do not expect to do more than 3 complete crazy 8s.

Try to keep the string as much on the tip as possible.  Don't let the string brush the top body as it goes up and down.  That really slows the spin and topples your crazy 8s.

And yeah, with a fixed standard tip, 3 revolutions is about it.

...and try to match the revolution with the precession of the top, i.e., keep the tip pointed towards the center.  You should have to do it much slower than with a bearing top.
