Whirled Spintop Festival in Miamisburg?
« on: July 11, 2010, 08:59:53 PM »

Mike, when will the festival be this year?  I hope that I didn't miss it.

Sorry if this has already been posted somewhere.  I browsed around for a few minutes, but didn't see it.

And, is there still a classic car show that day?  If everything works out, I want to bring my '63 Vette.  Any chance I can reserve a spot near the spintop festival?

Oh my!  This is exciting.  I don't know about reserving a spot for your vette.  That is a new request!!!  I will try to check on it.

Thanks for asking about the Whirled Top Fest.  It is set for the 28th of August from 5-8pm.
Yes, there will be a cruise in with it again.

Read more about the event and see pics and videos from past events at www.miamisburg.org/tops.htm

Awesome!  I didn't miss it!  WOOHOO!!!

No worries about reserving the spot bro!  I mean, worst case scenario is that I will have to get there really early and I guess I'll throw some tops to pass the time ;)  lol

I will do my best to get there with or without the car.

Woohoo! You could convert the vette into a temporary trompomovil  ;D

I think I should get the courage and tell my wife I am leaving again after coming back from Orlando . . .

Sorry to hear that. I may still try to go, though.

A top festival 2 hours away?  Color me interested!

Also, I wanted to say hello to everyone.  My name is Chris.  I just received a Bearing King as a gift on Saturday and have been rather focused on it since.  I don't really have an area to throw on the ground, so I've been working on my boomerang.  I think my top must be broken because it rarely lands straight up in my hand.  ::)

Anyway, I hope to be able to make it next month!

Welcome to the board Hpsi Epsi!

That's not your picture on the avatar, is it? Schrödinger's equation tattooed on the back is pretty extreme!  :o Anyway, I assure you, spinning a top on your hand is easier than quantum mechanics.  :P By the way, we have physicists from the University of Cincinnati on this board.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Hehe, no.  I have no tattoos, but if I were ever to get one, that would be high on my list of possible designs.  I like that expression for it.

Also, I searched & found (more than) a few threads on the subject of string length, but I'm still a bit confused.  I read something about long strings making it harder for the top to turn over.  I measured mine, found out I had a 78" string & proceeded to cut off 6 or 7".  I'm having a lot better luck getting it to turn over now, but I'm wondering if it still might be a little long for a beginner like me.  I don't want to keep trimming string & end up with something way too short though.  Should that length be OK for me & my BK?
