2024 World Yo-Yo contest in Cleveland
« on: February 23, 2024, 10:08:18 PM »

There seems to be little chatter about this on the forum but I have had a couple people ask me about it recently.  Sounds like it is July 31st-August 3rd and there are a number of top spinners expected to attend.  Has anyone else heard much about this?

Hello Mike  :D I ideally would like to attend both the World Yo-Yo Contest in Cleveland and the 25th Anniversary of the Miamisburg Whirled Top Festival.

Would you happen to know the date of the Miamisburg Festival?

I am wondering if it would be beneficial to competitors if the festival is held the weekend after the WYYC (10th and 11th) which may allow competitors to attend both. I myself am wondering if it is more beneficial for me to make one or two trips to Ohio in August.

I want to visit Serpent Mound one day (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serpent_Mound) located in southeastern Ohio, being a 1000-year old Equinoctial Marker and shows astronomical alignment, but I am not sure if it justifies me staying the week around southern Ohio, and if I could afford a 2-week trip instead of two individual shorter trips.

I would also like to arrive earlier in Miamisburg than I did last year, which was the morning of the competition  ::)

I may also randomly start a job here (none in sight yet) and I will need to see how my funds are too to plan one or two trips.

These are my thoughts. We are lucky to have two awesome events in Ohio this year again  :D

Well, I have been thinking about this.  Our event is the 24th of August.  Even if we were to move it (which we haven’t for 25 years) would anyone want to come this way and hang out for a week after the world yoyo contest?  Of course, you are willing to hang out at my house until the 24th but can you get that much time off?  It is a hard call and the yoyo contest in Cleveland is a super great event…..but our much smaller gathering has some intense top spinners and unique top spinning action!!!
