Newby intro with some unusual stuff.
« on: October 02, 2022, 03:27:56 AM »

Hi there.
Newby here (at tops).
I do turning, though my main focus is on bone carving. Along the way made some finger tops now and then, to sell at markets. Until I stumbled across this forum, and specifically the post about some Louvre pieces, I thought that no-one ever made tops out of bone. I knew about ivory ones, of course, but not bone. Now I know better. (not a surprise, really.)
Anyway, here's a couple of photos of some on my benchtop right now. The second pic is in the process of spinning.

Welcome to the forum!

Nice finger tops!
Bone is an uncommon material for tops, but lately I have seen it used more by European spinning top craftsmen.

I am in New Zealand. Bone carving has become practically a folk art here, so bone raises no eyebrows at all.

Mailman…..rib!!!  You are so funny.  I also find the Kerplonk name humorous.  Good selection as we all know that sound from our whirling items.  Nice job with your creations out of bone and welcome to the forum!!!
