Hello I just wanted to say hi to everyone in the spinning top forums. I've been on this website for a while now.
I learned how to spin a koma spin top this Christmas and was able to get it to spin on my hand but I had to take a break because I needed elbow surgery.
I'm healed from the surgery and now I am finally able to play with the spin top again! Ive been playing again since last week. I'm trying to learn 30 tricks and complete 90 hours of spin top practice by the end of July. I've been practicing everyday for 3 hours a day . Heres what I've learned so far I hope that you like it.
I'm actually so surprised about how fun learning the spin top is I never had a spin top growing up so it's something completely new to me it's kind of like learning how to yo-yo or play the kendama I'm really a big fan of spin tops yo-yos and kendamas I'm glad I found out about these historical made modern skills toys!

Hi Eloise
Welcome to the forum and the hobby!
That's a big compilation: you have learned quite a bit. I would say that most tricks are more difficult with a koma than a regular top.
I haven't seen before anybody doing a boomerang to the back facing hand like you do at 1:20. Maybe you want to name that trick  ;)  I need to try it.

.

Thanks. I actually tried a mexican spin top at first & i had a lot of difficultly getting it to spin on my hand but With the japanese koma its much easier for me. Maybe people who already have experience with the mexican style tops think its more difficult because its not what theyre used to. As for me I never had either so I decidedim going to stick with the komas¡ I also love way they look.

As for the trick you mentioned I saw it in a tutorial from a japanese spin top vidoe so it probbably already has a name.

Hi Jim, it means a lot to me to also share my video with the spin top community. Everyones cool tricks inspire me to continue practicing. Im a french acadian living in Quebec. My ancestors came from France although ive never had the chance to visit yet.

Do you know of any other Canadians spin top players¿ I've yet to hear of one. Actually I've never even heard of spin tops with strings until this christmas. I was buying some yoyos from yoyotricks.com & I saw spin tops for sale & thought they looked super cool.

Very happy I bought one. Im trying to practice for 90 hours by end of July & then afterwards I want to continue practicing throught the year but I wont be able to dedicate as much time for it as this month. Right now im aiming for 3 hours per day, afterwards it will probably only be for 3 hours per week. Depending on my commitment to practice, maybe Ill be good enough to make up a routine to enter the Worlds Spin Top contest . Either way im excited to see the other players performances¡

Im trying to learn 15 more tricks within two weeks. Ill post another video it I do.

Thanks

Bonjour Eloïse

Do you know of any other Canadians spin top players

the spintop scene in Québec has been very active 10 years ago
with the group around Justin Adam and their "canadian style videos"
if someone has the link it would be great

more recently there are several high level players in your country :

Xavier (aka Paxl13 on the forum) lives in Quebec
here is the link to his amazing progression through the months
http://www.ta0.com/forum/index.php/topic,5113.255.html
since last summer he has been very quiet ,
he told us he was too busy with his family,  kids and work
to go on practicing as much

Jack (aka jack on the forum) who lives in Toronto
he is an expert in regen tricks , very creative and fun player

Mark Leithead (same on the forum) lives in Ottawa and represented Canada at worlds last year

you're not alone ! ;-)

ciao a tutti , TABERNAK !
