Bindlestiff Cirkus
« on: April 05, 2021, 10:43:48 PM »

If you get a chance watch the replay of the Bindlestiff Cirkus from tonight (5 Apr 21). The host did a good, not great, top routine and it looked like maybe he used a Sweetel. They showed the turning of a BIG top about 3x3 feet and then spun it with an electric drill. It lasted over 6 minutes. And the bonus Steve Brown did a cool 5A yo-yo routine. All in all a pretty good show.

Thanks for the heads up, Dick!

Note that each week circus video only stays up a few days (until Friday?) so you need to watch it before it disappears. It really starts around the 8th minute.

But fortunately here is a video of the part building the big top:

It's difficult to recognize Steve with that long beard. But in spite of the looks his 5A skills are still intact. Nice to see him with his kids at the end.
It appears that his 5A patent that belonged to Duncan has expired and now he can sell counterweights himself (5ayoyo.com)

Did anyone try to get one of Paul Steward's tops? He never answered my email.

On the one from yesterday, Keith did three tricks with a koma from SpinGear. One was actually a Colombian trick (I don't recall Japanese doing it): the tongue stall (el beso de la fea). Another was a trapeze, replacing one hand by an ear. He said he saw it performed by and elder on a video: I bet it was Mr. Fujita. The koma is at 17:00.

He certainly is a supporter of spin tops.  I spent some time with him in Davenport, Iowa when the big IJA fest was there.  I was walking into the convention center and there he was in the grass practicing his spin top tricks.  I was impressed since it was something like 7 in the morning.
