Tops from Pakistan
« on: December 08, 2019, 10:53:34 AM »

I'm fascinated by the Jodia bazaar in Karachi (found on the Getty gallery). Tops must still be popular in Pakistan!

The tops that look like diabolo cups are new to me. The cups are metal, but some are painted and I first thought they were plastic. The tips are made with a pointy bolt and a nut. I wonder if the cup is repurposed from another use. I need to find one.

This shop is probably a reseller that mostly sells to retail shops (but would also sell to individuals.) Gus took me to visit the same thing in Mexico city: there were half a dozen spintop resellers in one corner of a large market.

Most likely wrapped with a string and thrown on the ground.

Here is another version of the cup:

They are relatively small and could be spun with the fingers, but I doubt it. I think they are meant to fight.

Looks like a challenge to wrap tightly.

Nice video, Ludo. Would love to see how these tops are wrapped, and to understand the game they seem to be playing.
