A feast for the eyes
« on: December 07, 2019, 01:45:12 PM »

My holiday gift to the forum: A feast for the top fancier's eyes...

Searching Getty Images for "spinning top" returns no less than 2,262 hits. You can browse them for free at

https://www.gettyimages.com/photos/spinning-top?phrase=spinning top&sort=oldest

Some of the hits will leave you scratching your head, but most of the ones I've seen so far have been pretty on topic, all the way to page 76/76.

There are modern and vintage photos, old drawings and engravings, product art, you name it! Bet even ta0 will find things he hasn't seen.

Art is how we decorate space, music is how we decorate time ... and with spinning tops, we decorate both.

Wow!  That is a lot of photos.  It's going to take me awhile to look through them.  Thanks for the link, Jeremy!

I, too, will have to work on this a bit later.  Big Miamisburg parade today, big Ohio State football game tonight and worship services to lead tomorrow.  But it looks like a great activity for early next week.  Thanks!!!

It's taken me a day off and on to go through half of them. Lots of dreidels and Japanese tops, but also more than a few gasing!

Got though them all, including several Japanese food and pet photos with small colorful tops scattered around almost like a visual garnish.

Having been fairly impressed with the hit rate for "spinning top", decided to take Getty's suggestion to search on "gyroscope" as well.

Expected an even better hit rate, of course, and got one with no filters applied. Then I clicked the "video" tab. And there on page 1/4 were no less than 5 offerings of a gynecological procedure in progress.

No gyros in sight, but perhaps the surgeon was using some kind of guidance system no longer in view. :o
