A technician in his late 20s came by the house to check the heating unit for the winter. He immediately noticed the pegtops I have on display at the entrance and told me that he used to play trompos in el Paso, Texas. He said his mother was from across the river (Ciudad Juarez in Mexico), where trompos were very big. He told me he used to battle to break them and described something I hadn't heard before: they kept and carried around the tips, tied with a string, of the tops they had killed!
