Thanks Steve for all the help.
Knowing that there can be a refund should let everybody register early even if the VISA and funding have still to be sorted out.

I gave Bob Malowney the score sheet as soon as we finished adding up the scores at the judging table. But our freestyles were just before the awards.
I was surprised that Jose, who was the first to register back in January or February, did not edit his music, but I know of others who didn't. I think that except for my first worlds in 2004, I have always edited my music to 3 minutes (at the beginning in CD-R) because I like to have cues, specially towards the end, and it is always nice to have the music naturally finish with the performance.

By the way, the Miamisburg spintop festival and US nats is this Saturday just a few hours drive from Cleveland  ;)

I have to say sorry for overlooking the music thing. It goes without saying it won't happen again. I don't blame anyone ,but myself. I actually never had shortened my music in the past and it finally caught up to me I guess. :-[
I have worked to improve the top community through my tops, play and content I post online. I felt that through these contributions I could make a positive impact. It seems that me falling flat on my face resulted in that change I was looking for. Hopefully for the best.
I am sorry to all.

High All ! ;)

thanx Steve for your support : after all, it's You ,who once tried to explain the world "how to be a player"

as far as spintops , we are not yet strong enough to grow independent from the yoyo community ;
in the future ,be sure that we will do our best to meet the World Contests requirements

see you in euro-land next year !

bye

Jose your just FANTASTIC. Thank you for your enthusiasm for tops. Now please buy and modify a Toulo fighting top. We will meet again and fight to the DEATH.

I must confess, if I would have competed in Cleveland I would not have edited my music.  I totally missed out on the importance of that.  I guess I am still remembering the dark ages with a series of songs on cds and simply telling the sound guy "please use track number 5."  I remember one year I specifically used a 2:45 song and I was going to talk to the judges/audience for the last 15 seconds on the rollo bollo but the sound guy tried to help by adding more music.
Happiness runs in a circular motion!!!

Everyone that throws 1A should have to read all 8 pages of this thread.

You guys are in it for the right reasons and have a great community here.

You're a great contributor to the spin top community (I lurk, lol) and really, you shouldn't feel bad. This is just one of those things that needed to sort of hit a wall in order for everyone to realize there were parts out of whack. But we've got a clear path forward and luckily, y'all have a top spinner up here in the head office. ;)

I am really motivated how smoothly all this went. I have another life as a local disc golf club president, and at times I think I might as well be working in a daycare. I mean I care deeply for many of the players but sometimes we don't handle our problems very well.

ta0, I would like to help with the tasks that Steve outlined. I probably won't be going to Worlds every year but I still think I could be helpful.

This pic wins the thread imho.

I not really qualified to opine too much here, but from what I see from afar, I find unklesteve's honesty to be spot on.

"...appears to be a disconnect between the level of play in spin tops and yoyos..."

"I realize that spin tops are not as far along competition-wise as yoyos are, but if we're going to continue making room for it at the World level we're going to need to maintain some standards and make sure that the level of competition on stage reflects a World Championship level of play..."

The discussions in this thread appear to be just what the doctor ordered for the future of spin top competition.

Combined with what I've read about interest seeming to grow around tops at Worlds this year, I find what is transpiring here to be pretty exciting!

I'd also be happy to help with what I can.  I anticipate going to World's for the forseeable future so feel free to let me know what I can do (maybe by email as I'm more of a lurker here these days).

Any word when Eli's video will be available?  I missed the spintop finals livestream and would very much like to see it.

Beth

I had SO MUCH FUN! Thank you ta0 and everyone who was so kind and chatted and spun with us. What a fun group of people!

Quiz: From the video, how many top players were in the room at that time? (I haven't counted yet)
I count 24, including Kyo (at least he makes tops) and myself behind the camera.

The first night Dylan Kowalski, the blogger with a mohawk, spun with us:

Unfortunately, I couldn't take Dylan's photo with Figaro (neither Dennis Shatter's) because The Earl took the NST away with one of Figaro's bearings, but that is another story.  ::)

We also met two of the newer members of ITSA and this forum, Mark K. (Mark Kolleckert) and Bethany (Kivela). Mark started with komas and then got his friend Beth into it. They can boomerang and trapeze a koma and handled Figaro with no problem. Beth's husband was also with them and was learning to throw.

Both are very nice. Beth enthusiasm and excitement is contagious.
