Any special tricks on removing tips from a QSH?
« on: March 14, 2019, 07:22:55 PM »

I ordered some replacement tips since my QSH's tip has seen better days but no matter how much I pound on it with a screwdriver it doesn't appear to be getting loose the way my Grande did. Are there any good tricks for removing the tip on the QSH?

My special trick is owning a shop press  >:D , but without one you may try heating it. Aluminum has a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than steel, so the tip should become lose if you heat it enough (I haven't try it myself).
The other tip is to hammer stronger  :P I have a wooden block with a hole where I can place the tip so the wood holds the body of the top. Then it's easy to hammer hard. Instead of a screwdriver I use an Allen wrench.
It went in, it should be able to come out!

Chris Neff has a piece of PVC with rubber around the top edge that he uses for a holder for the top.  He's working on a BK in the video but it may give you some ideas. https://sites.google.com/site/yophosis/spin-tops-101/clean-the-bearings
