That photo shows the Gates name on the inside of the broken nats trophy. That confirms what Jon had said about signing the inside . . .

    Hey Jorge,
  how about when you dropped
The Chico 2.0 into the river ???
   It is still there ?

Yes, the Chico 2.0 top is probably still at the bottom of the Seine in the center of Paris. There is also a Giulia down there, lost by NickC!

Did Pop Top break the big National Spin Top? I would like to know how these big top are breaking. I will only throw my nice tops on grass.

Ha!  I did not even notice Jon's name in there.  Thanks for pointing it out.  That's good trivia!!!

Hello Everyone,

I notice that you are discussing how to prevent tops from being damaged, while spinning outdoors? I might offer my two cents then?

I spin proffessionally (never said I was good LOL), and often do not have access to "grass". What I use is a little bit of rolled up, light, carpet that I bring with me, in order to prevent the top from being damaged should I drop it. The top rarely rolls away or gets away from me, but just in case, I often have a bit of wood around the edges, eventually I plan to have a little "mini fence" system in place.

That might not be the best option, but it is what I do when performing for crowds, so I thought I would offer some advice!

Thanks for reading!

If you want something pre-made, a drum-carpet would be idea. But, for something bigger, commercial/office type carpet from Home Depot or similar hardware stores works wonders and is fairly cheap to use. Worse case is you can cut it down to 6-foot wide sections to make rolling and transport easier.

I hope Rosie, will live a long life. I think the reason she will not do long wire walkers is because the tip is to small. Like Tao said. I have to go four times bigger on the tip.

Dear Studio42,

Never considered a drum carpet, or office carpet for that matter!! A splendid idea, because I think that would look SO much more proffessional... I just use raggedy old apartment carpet, that I ripped out of an apartment I was remodeling! LOL. It looks UGLY.

Thanks for the tip!

Wouldn't something like this work?  They're not very expensive, and definitely portable.

It's just a darn good thing nobody was directly below at the moment (although the top might have survived if there had been)....
Re-read this revived thread from the beginning.  It reminds me or the long recorded version of "The Motorcycle Song"  :) :)  Where you playing a Uke whilst spinning?   (very few will get the significance)
