5th Japanese national contest
« on: March 17, 2018, 07:03:31 PM »

This Wednesday (must be spring break) will take place the 5th Japanese National Koma Contest and Meeting, again at the Kobe Municipal Rokkomichi Children's Hall. These started in 2013, so I guess one year was skipped (unless they don't count the first one in Nagoya. I'll have to check that).

Here is the announcement on the Hall's website (in Japanese): link.

You can see the list of tricks for the ladder, with drawings and videos on the spingear site: http://spingear.jp/koma/2016/09/25/list/

Here is Taka getting certified for the 5 tricks of the "9th Dan".

Double Dragon? Was he holding 2 regular koma in one hand? Pretty cool.

This event looks cooool, I have to go to Japan at least once in my life and meet some of the best koma players. I want the ability to teleport so much  ;D

The Double Dragon looks awesome reminds me of Trompos' twin tops. I will have a go at it and post a video if I manage to do it :D

I'm guessing these are the winners (plus uncle koma):

From the trophies, Tsutomu Takeda won again the main competition, Yukino Watanabe won the women division and the boy in red the kids contest.

Tsutomu is wearing the Spintastics Superman T-shirt!  :)

Taka's facebook page seems to say that there were 160 participants. Here are some more:

Rupan (Shogo Ichikawa), Miki and Taka are there.
On the awards photo are Ryoichi Katsukawa and Hiroko.

I would think so, at least with the newer ones Spingear is making. The tip can hang onto the string due to the "bump" there, so it would be a bit easier.  From what I've seen, with the older traditional ones, they appear straight at the tip. I would suppose regens could be possible, but it would probably require the top be positioned "just right" so that it doesn't slip off the string. I have noticed with many of the Japanese players on the stage, when they are using Komas, it's like "one or two tricks and then discard and move to another top. It just seems with the Japanese tops plays, they bring more tops with them on stage and I notice more discards.
