Modded koma regeneration and battle

interesting battle with hand held collisions.  At 1:22 and the end it seems they are modifying the usually long tips these tops have into something shorter and stronger for battle.

The hand rolling regeneration we first saw from Gus seems very effective for these tops, especially with some sand for friction

I love the detail photos of the dented tops.  The play looks a lot like some of the gassing battles.
In the second video I laughed and laughed at the sub plot in the duration contest.  (9:45 to 10:20)
The duration is very impressive.  I also love that the other competitors were helping the winner with sand.

Amazing videos! Thanks John! (I split this from the Big Koma thread).
This is from Fukuoka district, on the northern shore of the southernmost of the Japanese big islands, Kyushu.

Yes, it's very interesting indeed how they mod the hataka koma (with the bowl crown) and yame koma (with the center cone) by removing the tips and putting new ones.
I'm guessing the fighting consists in hitting the target koma with the striking koma, and then see which one stops spinning last, with three fun improvements:
1. You can whip the koma with the rope to extend the spin.
2. You can scoop your koma and keep it going using hand regenerations.
3. You can strike the koma on your opponents hand with the koma on your hand.

The hand spinning duration is amazing! :o The "plate regenerations" are so effective that they don't even need to look at the top. The winner gave up at 3 hours, 30 minutes, 33 seconds:o :o :o  At 9:30 on the video he seems to be in pain, what I first thought was normal after all that repetitive movement. But it turned out that he needed to go to the restroom  :P , what he did while still spinning the top on the hand (accompanied by some witnesses)!  ;D ;D ;D

The use of sand was a great idea. I'm surprised they did not exchange the koma between left and right hands.

@Ta0, is that's a modified plate regen ? I still don't understand how plate regen are even possible... ? Would be fun to have more info on how this works :)

Cheers

Yes, they are "plate regenerations". Friction on the correct side of the tip provides the torque. So the top has to be slanted and moving in the correct direction with respect to the plate/hand.
I'm still amazed at how well they can do it on the hand.

Is it possible to do hand regenerations with a bearing tipped top, perhaps modified?

There’s only two ways: a sloppy/dirty bearing, or you can use a one way bearing (which has a clutch mechanism)

Ta0 told me how plate regeneration works... It's quite simple with a short circuit with rounded tip. For me the easiest way is to snap from the top with the right hand and regen with a book in the left hand making clockwise circles.

I think those kids make counter-clockwise circles with the right hand wind the tops like left handed.

This could be an arrow to pointing the winding direction??

Do they make one way top bearings?
