« on: January 08, 2018, 02:52:45 PM »

Well, it's already 2018, so we should start a thread for worlds in Shanghai, China.  :o  :)
It takes place August 9 to 12th.

For now, here is the trailer for the yo-yo contest. At 0.50 you can see a monobolo  :)

I think Taka will be our point of contact with the organizers with respect to the spintop competition. I plan to discuss this with him in 3 weeks.

I had an interesting talk with Taka at Marines.
The yo-yo contest in Shanghai was almost canceled. Basically, the Chinese association gave up. The Japanese association had to take over the organization. Some alternative countries were approached to host them but declined.

He first told me that the chances of it happening were 50-50, and that they had as deadline February 1st to find a venue, which was that same day. Well, we checked together on my phone, and the announcement of the venue had just been made:

http://wyyc2018.com/2018/02/01/wyyc2018-will-be-held-at-the-hyatt-regency/

So, the yo-yo contest will happen in Shanghai as planned.
I will contact Hironori Mii to make sure spintops are included. However, due to family reasons, I'm not sure if I will be able to go this year. We'll see.

Registration is open, and spintops are listed :) http://wyyc2018.com/contestant-registration/
I exchanged mails with Hiro last week and as always he was very helpful. The community should thank him.

I should have posted this a couple of days ago, as the first increase in fees already took place the 1st. The next increase is in April.
Currently is $68 + $32 for spintops division = $100 (approximately, as the prices are in Japanese Yen, what further demonstrates this is really a Japanese organization).

The other great news is that Dale, after saying he was not coming to Shanghai, now has changed his mind. And Val comes with him. So, we have judges confirmed!  :)

The spintop freestyle rules are posted on the worlds site:

http://wyyc2018.com/spintop-rule/

The ITSA logo is there  :)

I expect 3 or 4 Japanese players and a couple of Mexican players.
Who else is thinking about it?

HELLO ALL Here is a small graphic design contribution based on the wyyc logo. I did the same thing as we did in Cleveland. I hope you like it and that we can use it as the official logo of the World Cup so that each year we have an image and do more presence in the world that they think

I actually like your spintop logo better than the original.
Thanks for the contribution.

Are you coming to China?  ;)

The list of registered international players is here: http://wyyc2018.com/registered-contestants/
The list of players from China is here: http://www.wyyc2018.cn/details/id/584.html

As of March 15th, these were the players registered for the Spintop contest:

Jun Shimamura (Japan)
Kanta Tani (Japan)
Ko Nakayama (Japan)
Takahiko Hasegawa (Japan)

We know Ko from Cleveland, and of course Taka. I don't know who Jun and Kanta are.

Marco is registering today. So am I, to support the contest, just in case.

In total, two weeks ago there were about 100 international players and 200 Chinese players registered for yo-yo.
Interestingly, only 6 US players! It might have to do with the fact that this is the first time that US players need a Visa to attend. It's not cheap ($140 if you go in person to a consulate, $90 more for a service company to do it for you). The good thing is that it lasts 10 years.

Tomorrow registration increases by $18.

I hear that we will likely have a Colombian competitor.  :)

Tomorrow registration increases by $18.

Sixty nine days to go.

If you are coming, it's a good time to obtain your Chinese Visa.

Just 26 days to worlds.
There are only 7 registered competitors, 4 of them from Japan.
The others are from Mexico (Cuper), Colombia (Farid, he just bought his plane ticket), and . . . myself.
Yes, I better start practicing.  ::) I had planned to be a judge, but we need more competitors.

There's still time to go, if your are thinking about it.  I just checked and there are rooms available (at the discount rate) in the contest hotel. It's a great opportunity to get a World Title! (in China!). I expect next year in the US (or Mexico, or Colombia) to have a much more competitive field.

Bring on the competitive field 😂
Really hope for a closer location next year.
