Go Rob!!!  You will be great, but you will never have a better birthday meal than the one we had together at the Hard Rock Cafe in Iceland!  That was a good time under Britney Spears "Circus" outfit.

Good luck in these final days and in your final preparations.

That was an awesome birthday meal for sure!  I'll be turning 50 this year while in Shanghai so if you see me, give me a hard time for being an old man ;)

The spintop freestyles are scheduled for 17:30 (5:30 PM) local time, on Saturday 11th.
I believe that would be 7:30AM EDT / 3:30AM PDT (!), 12:30 PM Paris.

Because of Chinese broadcasting rules, if you have any tattoo, you should cover it for the freestyle. Also, no country flags allowed in clothing.  :o

Nine days to go.  It should be an interesting build up to that date.

Sounds like a fairly early morning for us on the east coast, a seriously early morning for those on the west coast and a late night of merry making and celebrating for Jim in Paris before the world freestyles.

No flags?  That doesn't shock me too much but that no tattoos thing is quite interesting.  That means there will be a lot of yo-yo guys wearing a lot more clothing than normal.

By the way.......thinking of you Rob.  Hope your training is going well.  Good luck in these final days.

I wasn't aware until now that China blocks many of the major US websites, like Facebook,  Instagram, Google, Yahoo, Whatsapp, Google Play, Gmail, Youtube, Vimeo, etc., etc. What many Chinese do is use a vpn (virtual private network) to go over the Great Firewall of China. I downloaded several, in case I need them. But it doesn't appear that ta0.com is blocked  ;D Hopefully, we will be able to make reports from Shanghai.

One sad consequence is that all our neat youtube spintop videos cannot be watched by most Chinese  >:( That could be one reason why there are no Chinese registered for the spintop competition. Maybe we should repost some of the videos in Youku and Tudou.

I remember reading something about ELGOOG, which is GOOGLE backwards and how they used that in China.

I just looked it up again and it looks like it is still in operation.  Interesting how so many sites are blocked......except ta0.com!!!

There are a total of 520 competitors registered for the whole event. That is more than Iceland but less than previous competitions in the US, Czech Republic and Tokyo.
Most: China 297, Japan 76, US 23, Korea 20, Malaysia 13, Czech Republic 13!  :o (includes Ann Connolly)

Some of the countries with just 1: France (Quentin), Italy (Sabatini), Spain (Tamariz), Uruguay  ;D

Mexico has just 3: Luis Enrique, Paul Kerber and our Marco (Cuper).

Bad news. Marco couldn't take the plane today due to a last minute problem with his business. We'll miss him  :(

On the good news, here are the spinning medals from ITSA:
