STB 2.5 maintainence
« on: July 20, 2017, 09:46:55 PM »

I recently got an STB 2.5. I wanted to turn it into a fixed tip. I went to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcRuZ_BRNX0

However, unlike in Neff's video, a washer is not supplied. I also cannot seem to crank down hard enough (and feel like I won't break it) to make it fixed,

Secondly, how do I properly reassemble the parts to turn it back into a bearing tip? There's one extra part that isn't in the video, as well.

Thanks all

Also, the bearings are extremely grindy, to the point that sometimes the top locks up mid-spin. Is cleaning bearings with mineral spirits/alcohol/nail polish removal the thing to do, as we do in the yoyo world? Or use a thin lubricant instead?

the plastic washer that youre missing doesnt work anyway. its best to go to the hardware store and pickup a box/bag of sink gaskets (faucet washers), simply put one of those under the nut and tighten her down  ;)

Watch the whole video.  Start at 3:30, you may find the use of your missing part.

Another way to go fixed is to remove the spacer between the bearings and over-tighten a little.  I did not like this idea when Maurizio told me this was his recommended way, but it works.  Tighten a little bit at a time until the tip is relatively stationary.
