The US National YoYo Contest returns to Chico in 2017, from October 6-8.

I'm not sure if spintops have been invited. I'm going to cut a stupid-cheap bid for "Music director" since my gear load-out will be extremely minimal. Even less since I won't need the wireless mics in the rig, just the mixer and a bunch of cables and computer accessories.

Just starting the conversation. I am currently working on BAC preparations as well as for my gig for Memorial Day so I'm too pre-occupied to deal with this further at the moment. I doubt I will be "contest ready" by then. That's not to say I'm not going to try though. I know my progress goes slow.

Argh! I was planning to go to Nats this year but I will be judging a spintop contest in Colombia those same days! 
It'd have been nice to see Rich again and the other guys I only used to meet in Chico.

I hope somebody steps up to judge and makes sure the spintop contest happens.

My heart has always been in Chico and it went out to Chico when it was moved.

Today the National Yo-Yo Contest sent out an announcement. This will be a transition year. Next year they plan to move the contest to the summer so it is before worlds and serves to seed players for it. In addition, it will become an itinerant contest: next year they are looking for a place in the Mid-West or East Coast.
So, if you want to have the traditional Chico experience, you better go this year. The official website is: nationalyoyocontest.com

If you need sound support services, I'm more than happy to supply it, set it , operate it, and then take it away when done. If I have to, I can provide recordings for video and audio, but it might take a week or two to get the stuff in a format to upload to YouTube. We would end up with the best sounding videos!
(that is unless Nationals hires me as sound director but I can still provide PA for spintops)

If it's not within a reasonable drive, I have a compact system I can use to lug to tap into an installed or hired/rented system.

I like the changes they are making. They are overdue and things I'd expressed in other areas in the past. Not as negative criticisms, but more of "ideas that might be something to consider". I think with the NYYL and the international yoyo organization, the times came together to make things much more coordinated. You always end up with an "awkward" transition period and then things are better.

It seems that Val and Dale will also be judges in Colombia. But, don't despair. We have a list of potential judges with experience and credibility that ITSA could support to go to nats if needed. Nats will happen.

I'd say if we can get at least 5 people registered to compete, then that should be enough to make everyone happy who is running the contest. I could be wrong, but it seems a good number.
