A long time ago, Larry was a NYC Duncan spintop champ representing The Bronx. I just got on EBay the trophy that he won:

Well, belated congrats to Larry!

You know,  a piece of memorabilia like that could easily be held for ransom.   >:D

Of course, there was that other Larry, Larry "Buff" Vendetti, who was also from The Bronx and was the terror of the playgrounds. I know you eventually beat him on a contest. I am sorry he took away your trophy and claimed it was his, but there is no shame on that, he was really big. But now he has fallen on hard times, he sold the trophy and you can get it back.

It's not in too good shape but should be a great conversation piece. I'll mail it to you.  :)

That should be a great conversation piece!

The trophy arrived today.

Thank you so much ta0!

Do you happen to know the year the trophy was won by Larry "Buff" Vendetti?
I tried looking it up without success.

I don't know, Larry. You look pretty proud for a guy who claims that the trophy isn't really his.   >:D

I am glad that the trophy got to its rightful owner.

To know the exact day you will probably have to go to the library and search in the microfilm archives the sports section of the New York Times :P

It has to be from no later than 1964, when Duncan declared bankruptcy. The back of the 1963 trick book has a very similar trophy, except that the base is a trapezoid and the circular base does not say Duncan but only has a leaf motive (exactly like the one I have). We also know that at least as early as 1956 they were giving trophies with tops positioned like that, although the one I have has an extra large top (not real size). I am pretty confident that it is from sometime between 1955 and 1964, most likely between 62 and 64. But my gut feeling is 1959.  :)
