vintage top

Hi all
good finds today in the 5th district,at the square in front of Jussieu University
it was was full of stands, more a "vide-grenier" (garage sale) than a "brocante"
to my surprise I found a boxwood spintop which I got for 3E and a fun toy with a rotating disk activated by a simple push-gear : i'm sure you know these : what's the name in English?

the top has been well-played,with marks and cracks but spins well with no wobble
 weights at 128grams !

Nice finds, jim! Were you in Paris at the time?

Sorry, I don't know of an English word for the red toy. Does spinning the disk create some kind of optical illusion, or is the fun just in the spinning motion itself?
