I went to the movies with my wife on New Year's Eve.  When they went through the previews I was stunned to see one start with a spinning top.....a finger spinner!  The movie is "Inception" and it looks like it is coming out in July of 2010.  I checked a trailer out on the internet about it.  It was the same one from the theater and there, again, was that spinning top!

Nice that they think the top is symbolic/suggestive enough to select the scene for the trailer of a major scifi/action movie.

I probably tried to imprint this one on my memory bank so I did not make the same mistake if I came across such a restroom    Actually, that is the same entry (go a couple of pages further) that described the spintop stigmata. It was probably the first time I read about a modern yo-yo/spintop contest.

Yes, Glasseye always seemed to be interested in tops, although I am not sure how much he throws. He posted Felix famous spintop video.

I'd been to glasslab.com in the past but hadn't seen this, thanks.  Your Felix famous video remark intrigued me so I went looking.  That's some damn fine spinnin' from Felix especially towards the end.

Inception is out. Has anybody seen it? Does the appearance of a finger top have any relevance to the plot?

I haven't seen it but the papers make it sound like everyone else has.  Wow, lots of tickets for this have been sold.  I have read some good reviews on it, too.

I saw it as a double feature along with Despicable Me, at the drive inn on Saturday night.  The Top represents a totem that each member of the (dream team) carries to let him or her know when they are in their own reality or dream.  Each member carries their own personal totem (some small object that only they know about) so they can tell the difference between their reality and a dream (especially someone else's dream who might be trying to influence or extract info from them).  It's complicated and difficult to explain, so you should really see the film for yourself.

I give it two thumbs up!   Also, Despicable Me was super cute

There is the Cherry Bowl not far from Traverse City.  That drive-in highlights the 50's and is lots of fun.  I will bet Eric has been there.....maybe even with Alan Gray and his family!
