Poplar top
« on: October 16, 2016, 06:38:16 PM »

My son in law gave me a chop saw for my birthday so I made him a fighting trick top. I bought this poplar wet about eight months ago I decided to cut it even though it went out of shape by 7/16 diamenter. Well it came out good. It's 3 3/4 x 3 3/4 and weighs 10 oz. I have to balance it a little. And it does all the basic tricks. And he wanted it clear. No stain.

Thank you Jmadrigal, it's a close copy of the Taiwan tops on ebay. They are a lot of fun.

Thanks Jack. I found the balance point - now to drill a hole at the top and put the lead in.

This top turned out to be a dust collector. Maybe the next owner will set it free.

I made this top on a Cadillac metal lathe. The owner paid abut $ 5,000.00 for it used, I think they run about $ 50,000.00 new. 14.0 inch swing 10 horse power.

LOL - I knew it had to be something like that.  I was just mesmerized by your very interesting introductory sentence:

"My son in law gave me a chop saw for my birthday so I made him a fighting trick top"
