I was talking with Paul from Crucial at nationals about the Delrin tops I was wondering if they were going to do it. I can't wait to see what they come up with.

I think when the younger crowd sees that one can be sponsored through tops (even though Kim is also good at yo-yos, he is not a the nats champ level) that will be a big motivation for competing.

On top of that: a new and cool top manufacturer!  Yeah!

I just realized that my excitement for the new top eclipsed the news of Darren being picked up by Crucial. Sorry for that Congratulations on the sponsorship. I am looking forward to top throwing gaining momentum in the next year.

Waxyaxle's post about Neff from the Duncan site reminded me that sometimes there is spintop gossip posted on the yoyo sites.  Checking with Crucial I found this bit from June 20, 2011

Congratulations to Darren for taking for 1st at the competition. Glad to see he’s kicking his 3A game up! Killin em! Darren is throwing a set of Crucial Delicious yoyos and sporting the glow in the dark Crucial drip tee.  If you don’t know, Darren is a World and National spin top champion. His signature spintops is set to release by Worlds in August.

Obviously, we've not seen the proposed new top release.  Perhaps he'll compete at nationals with something new?

Ive known Paul yath for a few years and he has told me about a couple of his ideas, as far as his top goes, he is working on a bearing system that will absorb the shock of being dropped on the floor tip down. i cant disclose all the info but from what he has told me, there are great things in store for crucial yoyos.

I believe this new bearing is a thrust bearing.  Perhaps a little something like this?

The thrust bearing would be great if it worked, but in my opinion it does not.  The bearing does not spin when the top is spinning in your hand.  In other words there is more friction on the bearing under load than between the tip an your skin... so why use one?
