Good luck Jim. I feel somewhat dejected today as Uruguay was eliminated from the Americas Centenario Cup after just two games.  :'( The team played bad. Suarez was injured on the last game in Europe and could not play.
In addition, the Spurs are not in the finals of the nba.  :(
Anyway, I am not much of a sports (spectator) fan. I just get interested in football (soccer) when Uruguay plays (or the World Cup, even if they don't qualify). And basketball only for the playoffs as the Spurs always seem to have chances to get the title.
The good thing is that I can now concentrate in the only sports I really care about: spintops!  ;)  ;D

I have several friends in Romania so I did not know who to root for.  Mostly I am glad that it went well.

Iceland football

I cannot believe no one has said anything about Iceland's soccer win over Austria!

Then there was that win over England!!!

Looks like a little match with France is next.

Someone may say this is not top related but most certainly it will be a big subject of conversation at the world championships in 2017.

With 1/10th the population of Uruguay and 1/1000 the population of the US, they are doing remarkably well.

Sorry, Jim, but the rest of the world will be rooting for Iceland against France . . .

Very good, ta0.  I love that rundown of the selection committee's work!

"Iceland is enjoying its moment in the sporting sun" says a headline in USA today.  Too bad we are not there at this time to enjoy all the fun.  "Right now is the best time to be in Iceland.  Everyone has a smile on their faces.  Everyone is loving life." says Jonathan Lama, an American who is playing professional soccer in Iceland.

Here is one more quote from the paper...speaking about seizing the moment "Iceland is doing just that, a country whose summer nights never see the sun go down, loving its time in the light."

I'm betting that the winner of Germany v. Italy will take the cup.
