Diamonds are forever
« on: December 05, 2009, 09:47:28 AM »

The diamond theme has been done by several Mexican brands.

I believe the original is the Cometa model Diamante. It has a very nice diamond molding embedded in the crown.

The 5 Estrellas model, Diamante Estrella, is not as good:

Extrem has a Jewel line with a diamond relief on the crown:

While all the previous tops have the body with an internal faceted surface, the Prisma model from Super Trompo has the facets externally. This is very unusual as practically all other Mexican tops have smooth outer body surfaces, except of the traditional circumferential grooves. Thus, they can use dark plastic. However, on the crown it does not have a diamond but the Superman "S" logo of the brand (do they pay royalties to DC comics? I doubt it.)

Now, you know. If you want to propose somebody (and make sure she will support your hobby) I have some Diamante and Prisma trompos for you . . .  ;)

Hmmmmm......I have an anniversary coming up!  I'm sure she would love some diamond tops (that I could use on occasion).

Nice photos.

Facets on the outside, nice, very crystallographic.  Physicists like crystal lattices (a lot), especially experimentalist (especially Cincinnati experimental physicists).  ;) ;)

The buttons-butterflyes of the prisma and extrem are beautifull too.

The tops are really jewels to me.
Is like if they were a piece of crystal, a drop of water.
Is like If a I wee playin with a drop of water, a drop of rain, and with the cord of a spider and I was handling a little planet with my hands, like an atom doing its orbit.!!!

The model diamante is really one to be in the collection of those ones who likes to play tops.

They are pretty eye-catching diamonds. The color combination are attractive, I am thinking of using them as Christmas decorations. The plastic molding are perfect to recreate diamond like tops.

The prisma one makes a particular "tubocharger" sound when its body make contact with the string.
