The reason that the no return rule came about was because it was dangerous and distracting to the player when one came flying from the fourth row about head high. Yo-Yos or tops no difference if it goes off it stays off during the contestants time.

I think the part in the rules that says any top that leaves the stage is disqualified should be removed.  Not going to fuss about it or build a case, I just think it puts undue pressure on the player.  The winding part should stay though.

The no-top-returned rule has been there since before my time. I imagine the throwing back of tops or yo-yos was more likely when the contests were more informal. I wouldn't mind removing it. I think it would help players. By the way, ITSA (probably the International Board) should vote on ratifying the rules for worlds.

I could consider tops that are PLACED on the edge of the stage, but any thrown tops and the rule must come back. I was there when it was necessary for safety to add the NO RETURN rule.

I don't see that putting much pressure on a player unless they've only got a couple of tops. Is that what you're referring to?

What's the winding part?

Right after the leaves the stage part is the no winding by others part.

I plan on using only one top that is difficult to acquire.

Chris, with your skills, you should only need one top.

Chris, with your skills, you should only need one top.

One top to rule them all, One top to find them,
One top to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them @-@

One top, eh?  I have heard that this sort of thing is a possibility.

Thank you, Neffster, for acknowledging my little attempt at humor.  But of course, I did not do any fancy tricks.  Not like Kazuhito Miki and his fabulous one top dropless routine.  Is he really coming to Cleveland this year?

Miki hadn't registered by May 16th. Taka had said he was coming. Miki probably doesn't need to practice to be able to freestyle, so it could be a last minute decision for him.

Last time I was spinning around the neighborhood, the word on the street was that Jim Neff was coming to Cleveland for Worlds.  If I remember right, he was talking about not getting there until Friday.  This might mean that the JNeff spinning circus will be rolling into town for fun activities after the top competition and for Saturday whirling affairs.  Who needs any top spinning workshops if JNeff and his car load of top tricks are in Cleveland?
