The only difference with respect to last year is that there won't be deductions for drops, only for winding the top on stage. However, drops can impact the Performance Score.

That is a good decision.

Are there any negative points (on clickers) for technical score? About 1 negative point for each drop, that wouldn't be so strict. Or will the drops only be judged in the performance score?

Only winding the top on stage will give a negative point. I am not sure if we even need a clicker to count those. Drops will only affect the performance score if they interfere with the flow, etc.

What if winding the top is part of the tricks you are trying to do??? Still a deduction?

Ha! Is the top self winding? Then, no, au contraire. :D But if you are planing to wind it because you are only using one top and you need a boomerang in the middle of the show, yes, you get a point deducted. The reason we started doing this is because winding the top is an audience killer.

I suggest that if  you have a trick you suspect could be mis-scored, you explain it to the judges before the freestyle. I think they are pretty flexible and reasonable.   ;)

I was planning something entirely different than what you are suggesting.  The crowd killer is actually a lack of continuity and flow not necessarily in the activity of winding a top.  Thanks for the info.

Because of lack of interest, I had to cancel the ITSA apartment (today was the deadline for a full refund).  :(
The Brazilian player(s) I was expecting got a snag with delays in the expedition of passports and won't be coming. The Colombians couldn't raise enough money (even if ITSA provided help).

I'm going to share a hotel room with Dale. Cuper and Gus (if he comes) will have to find some other place.

This is the list registered for spintop freestyles as of last week:

1. Gustavo Castro (Mexico)
2. Marco Palma (Mexico)
3. Futoshi Maruyam (Japan)
4. Jon Gates (USA)
5. Jakub Konecny (Czech Republic)
6. Daniel Konecny (Czech Republic)
7. Tom Kunkel (USA)
8. Jose Madrigal (USA)

I should know if Gus is actually coming in the next few days (a matter of $).
The Earl told me he will register soon.  ::)
I imagine Taka will also freestyle.
Dale mentioned Ko, but I forgot to asked him if he knew something specific.

It should be a good contest and we'll have fun for sure.

The schedule has not been finalized yet, but should be very soon.

The spintop rules are now up on the official site (including ITSA logo  8) ):

If you compete you need to upload your music here: www.iceland2017.com/music/

Ta0,
I am interested in doing the trick ladder, but not the freestyle. I am a beginner and cannot put together a 3-minute run. I could put together a 1 minute run and get eliminated immediately in the prelims, but that is the extent of my ability right now.  I am mostly going to the competition to support my buddy jmadrigal and to meet some really awesome top competitors and learn a lot (also, my wife loves Iceland). I am fine with either being removed from the freestyle portion altogether or just doing the 1 minute qualifier freestyle, but my run will not be impressive. Whichever works best for you guys is fine with me.
Thanks,
Tom

Tom: I had guessed that you were not freestyling. Thanks for registering anyway, it helps us with the organizers.
ITSA will get a nice medal for the winner of the ladder  :)

We have not yet decided if we want to get special  ITSA trophies for the freestyles, mainly because the luggage issue (I am going going to visit Lourens before going to Iceland). Now, if somebody else volunteers . . .

The ITSA board has approved refunding the spintop portion of the competitors fee ($30) to all competitors that are or become ITSA members.
Just pm me your Paypal email address (or I can give you the money at worlds).

We will be assisting the Czech Association and the Mexican Association with $400 each.
We will also help defray a small part of the expenses of the senior judge (Dale) with $200.
We will be getting a trophy for the winner plus medals for all the rest.

This will still leave ITSA with over $1000 for future projects.  :)

I need to double check on some things.  I am sure the answers are on the internet but I am taking the easy way out and saving myself some time.

What is the date and time for the top spinning freestyles?

Should we bring our music on cd's?  What is easiest?

Does anyone know what the stage looks like?

When are people arriving in Iceland?

Thanks for your help!

Mike: perhaps you should ask Dawn to be your spintop manager  ;D

The Spintop Finals are Friday at 17:00. But award ceremony is Saturday at 18:30. The schedule is just now on the website:
www.iceland2017.com/contest-schedule/

You need to upload your music before July 27th, 2017. If you don't, you have to bring it as an mp3 file in a a USB drive and pay a $50 late fee:
www.iceland2017.com/music/

But first you need to register! You will be paying an extra $60 with respect to those who registered early, but better than the $100 extra at the event:
http://www.iceland2017.com/register/

The stage should be pretty big, but don't know anything more.

I am arriving Wednesday (9th). I am leaving Monday.

Lots of good information.  Thank you.

Do you think one who is going to Iceland but does not want to set foot at the event or see any top spinning freestyles or even touch a top.......do you think they would be a good spintop manager?

She may change her mind when she sees how beautiful the Harpa venue is. Specially if some cold arctic rain starts.
Or I guess you could tell her that if she doesn't see your freestyle she will have to visit the phallological museum by herself!  >:D

Is anybody staying Sunday in Iceland? I would like to visit some of the countryside and we could rent a car together.
