Well, this evening I added my extra verse at open mike night.  I warned them but they still laughed and screamed a bunch, which surprised me since it is kind of a "bar" like atmosphere (officially it is a brewery).  I told them if anyone could handle it then it should be them.  Here it is...........

Leif Erikson was born in Iceland.
Bobby Fischer is buried in their soil and sand.
The country has a number of geniuses,
And a museum with the world's largest collection of penises.
Thankfully they are animal parts and glands.

If you enlarge a little bit the google map on the worlds site, the Icelandic Phallological Museum of Penises is one of the first landmarks that appears.
Now we know what the wives and girlfriends at the contest will tour while we play tops 

Years ago on a TV show (something like Believe It or Not) they interviewed a guy in Iceland who had put on his will a body part so the museum could complete the collection.

Many have said "keep a place for me" but there are no confirmations. My feeling is that in the end we will get a full house. But it would be nice to know ahead of time

Iceland once again makes USA Today newspaper.  This time it is in the up and down words puzzle.  The puzzle starts with the word "big" and ends with the word "all".  Puzzle clues are 1)ego, slangily 2)way to find Santa 3)Iceland's locale 4)Portugal has one 5)shoreline protectors 6)protect from and 7) "___ ___ odds"

Dale is arriving the 9th and leaving the 13th. I arrive the 9th (after visiting Lourens) and leave the 14th.

Up and down puzzles are fun.  They build from one two word answer to another.  Sorry, ta0, they are not Wikipedia and meant to teach one about a new country.  If you want to know more about Iceland, listen to me sing my song on open mike nights in downtown Miamisburg.  I am almost ready to do it without a guitar and only a top to accompany me.  Jim, I am a true amateur.  We need more amateurs in the world....including the top spinning world.

Good job, Mike! I am ashamed to admit it, but I was somewhat in a hurry and I used the cheat option on the USA site: each time you press "hint" it gives you a letter. The official solution has Atlantic instead of Sea, which perhaps is technically more correct (as Iceland is not in the official "North Sea") but I like yours more.
Why don't you come up yourself with one that is only spintop related? It would be fun to solve.

Ahh....yes, ATLANTIC instead of SEA.  Makes more sense. 

Amazingly, we just found out that our neighbors (just one house away) are in Iceland right now!  I cannot believe it and I look forward to their return to hear some of their stories.

I have had a number of ideas about puzzles for this forum, including this Up and Down style.  Sadly, I have limited time to work on them.  Besides that, I am generally the only one who tries to solve them.  This past puzzle is another example of how little interest there is for puzzles on this forum.  Thanks for your comments, ta0, and responding to this puzzle.

Well I got my plane tickets and will get in to Iceland around 9am on Wednesday.
