Why is this not on the Spintastics (or any other) web site yet?  Mine arrives Thursday!

Now that I know it is vintage I wonder if anyone knows anything about it.  When were they made? Are they common or rare? Do they work well?

It arrived!  After all these years (no idea how many) it lit on the first spin.  It is a bit temperamental but fun!

I have one of those that I got from Dale back in the day. Maybe around 1997? Mine always worked well. The light-up part is centrifugal so it can get funky and need adjustment, but I think it's a cool top.

I am not sure that I would call these "vintage". It is a clear sidewinder top with a torch circuit card. I have more that a few left over in my inventory. But they are all in storage and since the move is not over getting to them is very low on my priority list. I was at the US Nats when Dale first showed his light yo-yo. That would have been the 1997/1999 time frame. The same circuit card with two button batteries an LED bulb and a centrifugal switch is used in the torch yo-yo and top. I think that the top was a few years after the yo-yo. If Dale has his old price sheets he can pin down the time better.

"Vintage" is a relative term.  I will soon be driving a "Vintage" car not because I am so very into old cars but because I am cheap and Georgia law will soon let me have vintage tag on my minivan.  :)
