Flip-Flop trick and the Chico 2.0 top
« on: August 08, 2015, 02:06:48 PM »

I just got a replacement for the Chico 2.0 top that I lost in the river Seine last year. This one came with a cute Angie's Poker Club chip (but I will replace it with a lighter button for playing). I was testing it when I discovered that it works great for the Flip-Flop Trick.

The Flip-Flop is a Gyroscopic Flop done in both directions. Normally I would create a "neutral knot" by binding the tip over and under. After that I control the direction of the flip by slanting the string in one direction of the other. The problem is that the knot is very critical and getting it right is a matter of chance. In addition, after the trick is finished it is very difficult to unbind the top. But I found that with the extra wide chin of the Chico 2.0 you can do the trick with just a normal bind! When you slant the string it will put pressure against the chin on one side or the other and this creates the necessary torque to make it gyro flop (at 90 degrees).
