First of all, I learned "toque" is really pronounced "teuuuu - ke".
I hate that pronunciation without regard to the spelling (by the way, I heard on the radio that today are the national spelling bee finals). I bet in Quebec they pronounce it something like torque. The name according to a French website comes from Spanish. In Spanish "un toque" literally means "a touch". So it could refer to an accessory touch on the top of the head  ??? Currently it is a name for chef's hats (also in English and French).

wow so your knitting for an actual good cause, i admire you sir

Why, thank you.  These groups are easy to find, at least around here.  They provide the yarn, too!  You should consider it, Jack, it's very satisfying....

Yours is not the first spinning top to wear wool (or at least synthetic yarn) on the crown. So does the latest addition to my collection. Here it is spinning (not many collectors would dare):

The wizzzer is Hairy Hurry with Skelter Helter riding on it. They are from the Happidiculous World of the Upsys Downsys (Mattel 1969).
It is the wackiest top I have and I bet one of the two wackiest tops ever made.

I now have my own authentic Canadian toque, plus a true Canadian wood top and a unmistakable Canadian Maple leaf button, all made by the hands of that unique fellow, Jack:

I don't know if they were made at 2 AM or 3 AM, but I am honored to have them in my collection.

After boomeranging and tricking with the beautiful top, it went into display in my spintop cabinet. The toque I left around for my wife to find. Her words when she did were what I was expecting: "I hope you did not have a baby with another woman!"  :P

Thanks a lot Jack!
