Hi, New to the forum, but not new to top spinning.
« on: May 27, 2015, 01:00:51 AM »

Hello, I suppose I should introduce myself to the forum, I've actually been browsing here off and on even before becoming a member. I've been working with and spinning tops since a young age, my grandfather was the first to introduce me to them I think. I've only worked with trick tops once or twice and only in my adult years, when I was a child my parents would freak out about them marring the wood floors, haha. So I mostly spun finger tops and spring loaded wind up tops. It will probably be a while before I try anything with trick tops again due to a recovering wrist injury and blown out rotator cuff.
Now I mostly work with various improvised spinning tops from salvaged mechanical parts I've pulled from appliances and electronics over the years, I'm a bit of a tinkerer. I'm working on increasing total unassisted spin times with my various tops.
I also work with electronics, especially high voltage electronics like tesla coils, plasma globes (I have a very large collection).
My other interests are vortex mechanics (no surprise) and science in general.

Welcome to the forum!  As you may have discovered, there is a wealth of spin top knowledge to be found here.  We'd be very interested in seeing some of the tops you've improvised....

Welcome to the forum!

Wow! I can just image a darken room with all your plasma globes going at once, plus the Tesla coils sparking from time to time! 8)
Perhaps you can get a photo of a Tesla coil discharging onto a metal finger top: it would be great for the annual spinning top photo contest!

I look forward to seeing your creations.
