They look great! In what kind of lathe are you making these? How long does it take you to make one?

I have a small Jet BD-920 lathe. If I wasnt using scrap pieces from another project it would take 20 to 30 minutes to do the lathe work. I had small pieces of 4140 heat treat left over but was at 1.250in in size so I had a bit of time bringing it down to size. 4140 is also very hard material and might be a bit over kill I think I migh  pick up some stainless an try it as well.

 In the last two spintops I have made, I have used both tips Thor made for me.

Both are acceptable, but I think I like the earlier version better. The shorter length allowed me to remove more material on the inside of the top to make it lighter weight. I also liked the wider profile coming off the tip into the top body.

I just came across this excellent print again. I think This is what Jose, used.
I like AB at 45 degrees.
AT at 40 degrees.
.200 diameter at .225 to increase speed.
AT degrees works great but looks funny - to long.
The top just looks funny that far away from the hand.
The new video I made with my grandson shows Jose tip and the modified Tiwan tip I filed.

Thanks boys. Jim my Grandson was captain on his basketball team - I told him to get some of the guys to try a 4.0 inch top - he said they have a hard enough time with a basketball let alone a spin top. When he goes water skiing he throws his tops around the camp fire. I hope someday he will go to Mexico to see Gus and family - I know he would love it
